BCCA Membership Benefits

Program and accreditation assistance
BCCA will assist members with identifying resources needed to strengthen their communication programs and provide assistance to those seeking accreditation.

Networking and Contacts
BCCA offers a unique network of media professionals and student leaders at historically black colleges and universities. Members will
have the opportunity to network with colleagues and discuss goals and challenges for the enhancement of communication programs and student media.

Annual HBCU National Student News Media Conference
Members have the opportunity to attend the Conference, which has a practical and scholarly focus. The two-and-a-half-day conference features local, regional and nationally-renown speakers. There are also workshops, roundtables and seminars for students, advisers, faculty and staff to hone their skills.  Occasionally, national film houses choose the Conference to premiere their movies. As part of professional development, a job fair is held where students may receive internships and permanent employment.

The Excellence in Journalism Contest
The Excellence in Journalism Contest is the highlight of BCCA’s annual conference.  Student-produced work is judged by notable journalists across the country.  Students submit entries for 16 categories with the crowning glory being the Best HBCU Student Newspaper award.  The winners are announced at a banquet on the final night of the conference. Only students from member schools can participate.

Student job opportunities
Students will have first-hand access to journalism and mass communication internships and job openings. Many recruiters attend BCCA’s annual conference for the best and brightest at HBCUs.
